We took Kaelynn to the doctor last week for her 12 month appointment. She is doing really well. Despite her food issues she is growing just fine. She was 31.5 inches tall (97th percentile) and weighed 22 pounds (70th percentile). The doctor wasn’t concerned about her not wanting to eat and throwing up all the time. He said some kids have problems with textures and will eat jar food till 18 months or so. As far as the throwing up he thinks she just has a very good gag reflex. He said we could start giving her whole milk. He said we could keep her on formula for a while though since she isn’t eating many foods. Hopefully she will start to eat a more balanced diet at some point and then we can take her off formula completely.
After the doctor appointment we had a rough few days. She decided to start putting more things in her mouth. She has eaten some Wagon Wheels (or parts of them) and some puffs and tried some other things. This appears to be a good sign however along with her new curiosity she started to throw up a lot more. One night she ate some pink salad that was leftover from her party and she loved it until she threw it all up. One day this week she put a rice krispy in her mouth and proceeded to empty her stomach trying to get it out. We have also given her whole milk a couple times and she had thrown up each time. Then she decided she didn’t want to eat any jar food for about a week so she was back to just eating formula. I am not sure what will happen from here but we will keep trying to give her stuff and hopefully at some point she will learn to eat!!
Kaelynn has also had a cold for probably about two months now. Every time we think she is getting better is gets worse again. Last week on Wednesday Sean and I were talking about how she finally seems to be getting healthy. She still had a little bit of a runny nose and cough but it seemed to be going away. Then I got a call from day care a couple hours later about how Kaelynn was running a fever. So I went to get her early that day and we kept her home on Thursday. Then we went to Louisville for the weekend to visit my family and see Alan, Shannon and Becket who were in town for their 15 year high school class reunion. I don’t know if Kaelynn picked something up from Becket who was sick or something else but she is sick again. This week on Wed, I got another call from day care about Kaelynn having a fever (this was the third Wed in a row they have called because she was sick). We kept her home yesterday and today because of the fever. I took her to the doctor this morning and she has an ear infection and possibly strep throat. They didn’t test her for strep because the antibiotic will take care of it if she has it but the doctor said her throat looked pretty red. So it has been an interesting few weeks. I keep waiting for all those immunities she has been building over the last year to kick in! People have told me that kids that go to day care tend to be sick a lot their first year but are pretty healthy after that. I sure hope that’s the case!!
I will try to post some pictures soon. Unfortunately we don’t have very many birthday pictures because there was an error when we were downloading the pictures from the memory card and we can’t seem recover them. I am still hoping Sean will figure that out. I think we had about 400 pictures that we lost!!

Lucas had/has the same problem with food. He is so picky. Hang in there...aslong as she is growing, everything will work out. A trick we learned with the whole milk is only give 2 oz at a time and warm it up just a little; that helped Lucas drink it; also we mixed a couple ozs of milk with his formula when we were transition.
