Running

Pretty much all my posts are about Kaelynn but I thought I would write about me tonight! Before I got pregnant I had been running pretty regularly. I did two half marathons in 2007. I was supposed to do a third one but do to some alarm clock issues and the time changing we missed the race in North Carolina. I have run all my halfs with my brother Kevin. Well we don't exactly run together because he is a lot faster then me but we do the same races. So I thought it would be good motivation to get back into shape after Kaelynn was born to run another half marathon. We decided we are going to run the Indianapolis half marathon in May. I signed up for it back in the fall. Unfortunately it hasn't been as much motivation as I thought it would be. I have the best of intentions but I can't seem to ever find time to run. About two weeks ago I actually ran for the first time. I alternated walking and running and ran a total of about 3 quarters of a mile. Then last week I did it again and ran about a mile. So I decided that was enough training to run a 5K which was this morning! The weather was actually really good. I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt which is kind of crazy for March in central Illinois. I had thought I would do a walk/run like I had been doing on the treadmill. However once the race started I realized there were only a couple people behind me and I really didn't want to finish last. So I ran a lot more then I had intended. I did take probably 5 or 6 walking breaks but they were pretty short. I finished in just over 40 minutes. I know that is incredibly slow but I was thrilled to still be on my feet as I crossed the finish line!! I am hurting pretty bad now though. I think I am going to be quite sore tomorrow! We will see how my running goes from here. Hopefully I will start running more regularly. I am still planning to do the half marathon but I will probably do a lot of walking in that race too. I am definitely excited about spring coming because I think I will get outside more to run. I might have to look for a jogging stroller so I can take Kaelynn with me.
