On our third day in Massachusetts we decided to take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. It is really expensive to take a car over so we didn't do that. When we got there we were trying to decide if we wanted to walk, get bicycles, take buses or rent a car. A guy we met on the ferry highly recommended renting the car. He said it was the best way to see the island. One of the things we really wanted to see was on the other side of the island and we couldn't get there by foot or bike. So we went to get info on renting a car. The first place wanted to charge us $100. That seemed too high. The next place was going to charge $75. That still seemed like a lot to us. We met another couple that only wanted to stay a couple of hours and we decided to split the cost with them and share the car. The guy ended up only charging us $60 so that was a good deal when we split it. Mark and Sandy, our new friends, were from California and had been traveling all over New England. They were about to head home and just wanted to see the Vineyard. So we got our car - actually a jeep because that was all they had - and set off. It wasn't what I expected. I thought we would see all of these super nice houses but we didn't. It was absolutely gorgeous though with all the trees turning. Here are some pictures...
The most impressive houses we saw, we saw from the water on the ferry. Sean and I thought this would make a nice summer vacation house someday!!
We saw literally mile after mile of these stone walls. They were really cool!
This is what we drive across the island for. We heard this was one of the best views and it didn't disappoint!
I don't know what these colorful berries were - maybe blueberries? They were really pretty. Let me know if you know what they are!
